No, Donald Trump, Elton John is not singing at your inauguration

No, Donald Trump, Elton John is not singing at your inauguration

Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road, Elton John has other plans for January 20, 2017. And now a key official planning President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration is learning that Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word.

The New York Post reported that Anthony Scaramucci, a vice chair of the presidential inaugural committee and a member of the Trump presidential transition team executive committee, told the BBC: “Elton John is going to be doing our concert on the mall for inauguration.”

Why would Scaramucci make such a boast? After all, he is a New York investment banker who also hosts Fox News Business’ “Wall Street Week.” Scaramucci went on to boast even further: “This will be the first American president in U.S. history that enters the White House with a pro-gay rights stance,”

Only problem is, that’s not true. Elton John’s representative told the newspaper “Elton will not be performing at Trump’s inauguration.”

That’s not all. Trump is on the record in not supporting same-sex marriage. And as The New Civil Rights Movement reported, he’s also opposed to other LGBT civil rights issues. President Obama may have been publicly opposed to marriage equality when he was elected, but since then he has supported far more LGBTQ rights than Trump does.

And Elton John is on the record in supporting Hillary Clinton.

“She is, without a doubt, the only candidate supremely qualified to lead this great nation in these challenging times,” he said last month at a Clinton fundraiser.

“I’ve dedicated the past quarter century of my life to the fight against AIDS—to advocating for the human rights of all people… no matter who they are, who they love, or where they live. And Hillary has been doing this important work—fighting for equality, for the rights of all people—long before I was. She’s amassed an astonishing record of achievement—unmatched by any American politician today.”

Oh, well. I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues, Anthony Scaramucci.
