Nick Jonas’ gay sex scene criticized for ‘perpetuating stigmas’

Fans of the TV show Kingdom have taken to social media to express outrage at the show’s first gay sex scene featuring character Nate Kulina, played by Nick Jonas.

The character, a closeted MMA fighter who is struggling with his sexuality, is drugged and sexually violated in “No Fault,” the show’s latest episode.

Nate is drugged at a party and winds up in a threesome with a man and a woman. The next morning, he clearly feels upset and angry; the victim of a sexual assault.

Many find it a bitter pill to swallow after months of waiting to see if the character would ever get to live out his gay sexual fantasies.

Several fans are clearly upset the moment came in such a grotesque way.

One Twitter user wrote, “When we said we hoped Nate got a storyline this season this isn’t what we meant, but it’s a start.”

Another asked: “Nick’s character has been known to the audience to be gay for three years now, and this is what they’re doing to his character?”

Yet another wondered: “His first on-screen action with a guy was an assault and it still involved him mostly [with] the girl?”
