As Ad Age reported, the latest ad for Bud Light Beer is part of the campaign by Wieden + Kennedy called “The Bud Light Party,” featuring the comics in a variety of settings where adult beverages are served. In this case, it’s Amy and Seth at a wedding of two men.
“Gay weddings. They’re just like any wedding. You’ve got cringe-worthy speeches… the girl who’s super ready to settle down… and cake! Bud Light proudly supports everyone’s right to marry whoever they want!”
The commercial ends with the stars raising a Bud Light as a toast. “To the groom!” says Schumer, and Rogen adds, “And the groom,” as the wedding guests raise their bottles and cheer.
Anheuser-Busch also bought space in New York City and Los Angeles for two LGBT-rainbow billboards for Pride month.
Bud Light executives told Ad Age this is nothing new for the brand, with a history that goes back to its first community-supportive print ad in 1995.
“The Bud Light Party champions inclusivity among modern beer drinkers and bringing people together—for fun—over a beer,” according to a statement by Alex Lambrecht, vp of Bud Light at Anheuser-Busch.
“By featuring Seth and Amy at a same-sex wedding, we’re showing how all weddings—regardless of who is getting married—share many similarities and moments to celebrate. We created this spot because equality for all Americans is a concept that unites many Bud Light drinkers.”
Not surprisingly, what the commercial does not address is the rampant problem of alcohol and other substance abuse in the LGBTQ community. Research shows that there is a higher risk as people try to cope with discrimination and prejudice, and turn to drugs and alcohol as a crutch.
