The Republican Empire Strikes Back (against LGBT people)

Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed an amendment to clarify that federal contractors cannot discriminate against LGBT employees. Then, as Republican leadership held the vote open well past the allotted two minutes, some Congress members started secretly changing their votes. While the amendment passed when the clock struck zero, when leadership officially closed the vote, the amendment “lost” by one vote. Democrats shouted “Shame! Shame!” at the opposite side of the chamber as the cowardly conservatives voted to allow discrimination against LGBT people.

According to House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer’s office, the cowardly Republicans included: California Representatives Darrell Issa, David Valadao, Jeff Denham, Mimi Walters, and Greg Walden of Oregon, David Yong of Iowa and Bruce Poliquin of Maine.

Now Hoyer is winning the internet with this Star Wars themed parody video of yesterday’s misdeeds by the dark side.
