Donald Trump’s claim that gender-neutral bathrooms are “too expensive” has been put to the test by none other than late night TV talk show host Stephen Colbert.
In a skit this week on CBS’s The Late Show, the satirical comedian took Trump’s concern to his accountant, or at least, someone playing an accountant for the purposes of Colbert’s segment.
As LGBTQNation reported, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee told Fox News host Bill O’Reilly that a project to install gender-neutral bathrooms nationwide would cost “hundreds of billions of dollars.”
So on Wednesday night, Colbert played a taped segment in which he “converted” a bathroom — or at least, the door to a room, marked “Men’s Bathroom” one moment and “Bathroom” the next. His accountant informed him, to his chagrin, that his easy, common sense act of simply ripping off the “Men’s” sign would cost a whopping $200 billion.
