BOSTON (AP) — Republican Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker was heckled and booed when he failed to commit to legislation that would protect the rights of transgender people in public spaces.
About 1,000 business leaders attended the Wednesday night speech at the 10th Annual Boston Spirit LGBT Executive Networking Night.
Baker’s speech ended early when he walked off the stage and he did not mingle with the crowd after as organizers had hoped.
Baker decried any form of discrimination, but when people in the crowd started chanting “sign the bill” he instead said he would “talk to all parties involved” when the bill reaches his desk.

A spokeswoman says Baker looks forward to reviewing the legislation should it reach his desk.
Attendee Lorelei Erisis told the Boston Herald it was a “politically tone-deaf” speech.”
