Tracy Murphfree wants to be Denton County’s new sheriff, and right now, he has no Democratic opponent.
This is troubling, considering this Facebook post he penned last week:
This whole bathroom thing is craziness I have never seen. All I can say is this.
“If my little girl is in a public women’s restroom and a man, regardless of how he may identify goes into that bathroom.”
“He will then identify as John Doe until he wakes up in what ever hospital he may be taken to.
“You identify [sic] does not trump my little girls safety.”
He’s now telling DFW that he wasn’t referring to trans women but rather anybody “regardless of how [they] identify.”
“I understand how they interpreted it,” he says. “I understand how they saw it, I understand their anger. For that, I apologize.”

But he also think anti-discrimination protections give predators “a window.”
“What you’re doing is you’re raising the odds of these predators,” he says. “You’re giving them a window, you’re giving them an opportunity.”
Amber Briggie, who lives in Denton and has a trans child, says, “I feel like [anti-trans bulllies] might have gotten a blessing then from potentially the future sheriff for vigilante justice.”
