Openly gay Santa Fe mayor draws criticism for ‘I Am Cait’ appearance

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — Santa Fe, New Mexico’s Democratic mayor says he doesn’t regret appearing on Caitlyn Jenner’s reality TV show despite drawing criticism because of the host’s conservative politics.

The New Mexican reports that Mayor Javier Gonzales spoke about gender-neutral bathrooms in Santa Fe on a recent episode of “I Am Cait.”

Gonzales, is backing Hillary Clinton for president. But Jenner said on Sunday’s show that the country “is over” if Clinton is elected and argued that Republican candidate Donald Trump would be very good for women’s issues.

Gonzales, who is openly gay, described Jenner’s political views as stomach-turning but praised the transgender celebrity’s work raising awareness of the transgender community.
