Have you seen this man who allegedly raped a trans woman at the Stonewall Inn?

A transgender woman was allegedly raped in the bathroom of the iconic Stonewall Inn on Saturday night. Police have not identified the 25-year-old victim.

The woman entered a single-sex restroom around 11:40 according to the police report when a man “came into the bathroom claiming he only needed to wash his hands, then proceeded to grope and rape her.” The man fled the scene after the attack according to Gothamist.

The victim also left the bar after being violated, but returned an hour later to notify management and call the police. She was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital for treatment.

The perpetrator, described as regular bar patron on Saturday nights, is in his mid-30s with dark hair and a goatee. He’s approximately 5’10” tall and about 250 pounds. Police have released photos of the alleged attacker from surveillance video taken at the bar.

Transgender women are 3.7 times more likely to be the victim of a violent crime than non-transgender people. Political battles have broken out across the nation as conservative politicians and the religious right attempt to paint them as predators for wanting to use the bathroom that corresponds with their gender identity. The state of North Carolina was sued yesterday over a new law that would prevent transgender people from using the correct bathroom and rescinded nondiscrimination protections for LGBT people statewide.

Anyone with information is being asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
