Despite history of homophobic tweets, Iggy Azalea to appear at Miami Pride

On Sunday April 10, rapper Iggy Izalea will be a special guest at the eighth annual Miami Beach Gay Pride, joining host Elvis Duran on a float and parading down Ocean Drive.

Azalea — who’ll also be co-hosting an LGBTQ fundraiser — told People,“It’s such an important day to celebrate with my LGBTQ fans, and I can’t wait to see my Azaleans there!”

Last year, Azalea canceled a performance at a Pittsburgh gay pride event after being criticized for making anti-gay and racist remarks on social media.

At the time, the 25-year-old Australian rapper known for the hit single “Fancy” said her appearance at Pittsburgh Pride would distract from the event.

Azalea and the event’s organizer, the Delta Foundation, were under pressure from advocacy groups and elected officials who said her remarks were inconsistent with values of acceptance.

Azalea says she deeply regrets the past remarks. She says comments made in 2010 aren’t reflective of her character and her firm belief in equality.

Nick Jonas wound up replacing Azalea.
