‘Brokeback Mountain’ producers sponsor right-wing conference that honors antigay reality star

Focus Features, the film company that produced both Brokeback Mountain and The Danish Girl will be sponsoring a right-wing conference that previously honored Phil Robertson, the antigay star of Duck Dynasty.

Despite having two canonical LGBTQ movies under their belt, a new film distributed by the company does an abrupt about-face: The Young Messiah is a Biblical story starring Sean Bean, and it’s listed as a “Supporting Sponsor” for the 2016 Conservative Political Action Conference, which starts Wednesday.

According to materials in the sponsorship pack, it costs $25,000 to be a “Supporting Sponsor,” allowing brands to advertise at the event and receive favorable social media posts.

The sprawling Republican event has long been a place for antigay activists to congregate and creep.

It generated considerable controversy in 2015 by giving a “Free Speech” award to homophobic Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson, on the heels of nasty comments he made to GQ magazine.
