A married man from India was hospitalized for a psychotic episode after he insisted he was pregnant after having gay sex. The father of two told his family that he could feel a baby moving around in his abdomen.
After his family took the unnamed man to seek psychiatric assistance, doctors from the Kunhitharuvai Memorial Charitable Trust Medical College concluded that he was suffering from “delusions” spurred by his secret sexual relationship with another man.
“We never came across this sort of case before. He was an active homosexual in his adolescent years which may contributed to his beliefs. But, his homosexuality did not affect his marriage,” Dr. PN Suresh told SakshiPost.com. “Usually, we see couvade syndrome in some dads-to-be who show certain symptoms of pregnancy (like nausea, weight gain or sleep problems) when their partners get pregnant.”
“The patient went for counseling and took Risperidone. This delusion was cured due to the medical intervention. After a series of counseling sessions, he stopped indulging in homosexual activities. Now, the patient is recovering and we are measuring his progress during periodic check-ups.”

Risperidone is commonly used to treat psychosis in schizophrenic and bipolar patients; “Ex-gay” counseling has been banned in a handful of US states and the District of Columbia for contributing to the mental decline of patients struggling with their sexual orientation.
