A New York City Councilman decided to come out — in a single tweet that makes reference to The Golden Girls.
James Vacca came out on Friday with this simple, straightforward message:
60-year-old Bronx representative Vacca offered a bit more in a statement he released to the media:
“At this point in my life I’ve decided to publicly come out as a gay man. Every person has their own journey and I am fortunate to be able to make the decision to come out on my own terms. My orientation is an innate part of who I am and I want my friends, family, colleagues, and constituents to share in this part of my life. I don’t want a spectacle or media event; instead I just want your respect as another human being.”
Vacca got nothing but love from the City Council’s LGBT Caucus as well as New York State Gov. Andrew Cuomo, but it’s the exchange with another council member that really let us know where he stands when it comes to our favorite sassy septuagenarians:
