John Boyega debunks Star Wars’ gay romance theory

John Boyega has some tough news for fans of Finn and Poe: their hopes for the two Star Wars characters to become lovers is more or less a figment of his costar’s imagination.

In an conversation with U.K. based journalist Chris Mandle, Boyega shot down any idea of a Finn/Poe romance that has been hinted at by actor Oscar Isaac — only to quickly become the subject of loads of online fan-fiction.

A bit of background if you’re the one who hasn’t seen the newly minted highest grossing film of all time:

In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, John Boyega’s Finn and Oscar Isaac’s Poe have a very strong chemistry that bordered on the romantic.

The relationship has stoked the creativity of fanfic creators everywhere who would love for Finn/Poe to be the first gay love story in Star Wars history, and Isaac has stoked the flames of fandom with this quote from an appearance on Ellen to promote the flick:

“I think it’s very subtle romance that’s happening. You have to just look very closely; you have to watch it a few times to see the little hints but there was. At least I was playing romance. In the cockpit I was playing there was a deep romance there.”

Though he didn’t exactly say who the romance was directed at, he doesn’t share many scenes with Rey.

Boyega shot the rumors down via one simple quote to Mandle:
