Two men from New York say they were kicked out of an Uber car after the driver realized they were gay and became enraged.

Sam Simons and his friend Santiago Figeuroa (pictured together) say they were riding home from a night out when they posed for a selfie together in the backseat. Everything was fine and dandy until Figeuroa kissed Simmons. That’s when the driver allegedly slammed on the brakes.

“Man should not kiss man!” he yelled, repeatedly, before demanding the pair get out of the vehicle.

“We didn’t get out and told him to do his job and take us home but he refused to drive and kept yelling at us,” Simons said, adding, “It was not like we were all over each other. It was just a peck on the lips and an arm round my shoulder.”

Eventually, the men got out of the vehicle and called another car to pick them up.

“I love Uber,” Simmons said. “It’s a great service. But this was unacceptable.”

An Uber spokeswoman said: “As a company we do not tolerate any form of discrimination whatsoever, and we have been in contact with this rider to offer our support.

“Uber prides itself on providing the highest quality, safest and most convenient service, so we take any incident where we fall short very seriously.

“In any incident, such as this, we suspend the driver in question while we investigate.”
