Over the weekend, Ellen DeGeneres addressed a young crowd while accepting her Choice Comedia acceptance speech at the Teen Choice Awards — an event that took place on her seven-year wedding anniversary with Arrested Development star Portia de Rossi.
“It feels good to be chosen,” she said, “but there was a time in my life when I was not chosen. I was the opposite of chosen because I was different. And I want to make sure that what makes you different right now makes you stand out later in life. So you should be proud of being different. You should be proud of who you are.”
