BOULDER, Colo. — An attack on a transgender man in Boulder, Colo., will be prosecuted as a hate crime.

Paul Wettengel has been charged with third-degree assault and a bias-motivated crime after police said he punched and groped a man who is transgender, reports KCNC. The Boulder police department identified the victim as “a 21-year-old transgender person who identifies as male.”

The attack occurred April 13 at a Boulder bus stop.

The additional charge of bias-motivated crime could result in Wettengel receiving a felony conviction and prison time.
