Transgender woman killed in East Hollywood robbery attempt

LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles police say a transgender woman was fatally shot in the head during a robbery in east Hollywood.

Sgt. Michael Mabie says police responded to a report of shots fired shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday.

Witnesses tell detectives the victim was apparently robbed by two to three men who ran off after shots rang out. The woman was taken a hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after 5 a.m.

Mabie says it appears to be a robbery that went awry. No suspects have been identified.

Police say it’s too early to determine whether the victim was targeted and whether anything was stolen. The victim’s name has not been released.
