Elton John says he believes Jesus Christ would support marriage equality

Sir Elton John, who plas to marry David Furnish — his partner of more than 20 years — in a “low-key” affair next year, says in a new interview with Britain’s Sky News, that he believes Jesus Christ would support marriage equality.

“The church hierarchy, the traditionalists, might be up in arms about it but times have changed. If Jesus Christ was alive today, I cannot see him, as the Christian person that he was and the great person that he was, saying this [gay marriage] could not happen. He was all about love and compassion and forgiveness and trying to bring people together and that is what the church should be about.”

In 2010, John stirred controversy when, in an interview with Parade magazine, said, “I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems.”
