Celebrities raise awareness for homeless LGBT youth in Los Angeles (Video)

Sunday, October 20, 2013

LOS ANGELES — Jamie Foxx and Elton John are among a number of celebrities participating in a new public service announcement to raise awareness for homeless LGBT youth of Los Angeles.

“Any Given Tuesday” is a short film that features a boy whose parents kick him out after finding out he is gay. Living on the streets, he is raped, takes drugs, turns to prostitution to make money, and eventually contemplates suicide.

The PSA benefits the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center, which offers counseling, GED preparation, job placement, mentoring, medical care, food, clothing and a place to stay for the reported 40 percent of homeless youth in Los Angeles who identify as LGBT.

The film includes remarks by Lisa Ling, Lisa Vanderpump, James Woods, David Furnish and Bruno Tonioli.

  1. Just imagine if they all banded together and built a homeless shelter or 10 instead?

  2. building a shelter will do nothing. it takes millions annually to correctly staff and run a shelter.

  3. So, Elton John alone could support one for at least 50 years, in other words.

  8. @Kelly - Yeah, I am aware it isn't just as simple as throwing up a shack for people to live in. It was mainly a sarcastic comment about the fact that the people who actually do have the resources and money to change the world are usually the ones who advocate for other people to donate money to change the world.

  24. I believe in some states 16 is a legal age, I know Jersey used to be 16 but not sure if they still are :/

Replied on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 3:24am
  25. I don't think it is legal in any state to just up and kick out a minor... You can have your child emancipated if the child wishes it at 16 in a lot of states... However, many kids who are kicked out don't realize this or are scared to get their parents in trouble... scared they will be forced to go back home to parents who don't love them... don't even think about the fact they could turn their parents in... ect. Most kids would be in too much shock to know what is best to do.

  31. I personality work/ volunteer for a LBGT organization in my area and I see many young people being rejected and it’s soo sad to see how they are treated. But I’m so glad that that here and everywhere around the country is doing something to help these young people. No one deserves to be treated badly just because their gay, bisexual, etc everyone is the same!!!!!!! But many people just don’t want to understand. I will continue doing my part in helping any LBGTQ youth here in my area and I’m glad I can help make a difference. These people are hurting and what do people do they take advantage or they reject them or bully them to their breaking point. This really has to stop!!!!! We are all human!!!!!!!!

  37. instead of raising awareness, why don’t these rich celebrities donate some of their money to make a trust fund that sets up a homeless shelter for GLBT youth?

  40. This brought a tear to my eye. This is tragic that so many LGBT youth are homeless on the streets all because of parent abandonment. What ever happened to loving your child unconditionally? For god’s sake these are your children, and those parents who abandoned these kids, they don’t deserve to have kids ever again, and should be a law against this. I hope one day we won’t be talking about this anymore, and everyone will have compassion and understanding of one another.

  42. Had I come out when I knew I was gay, I too would of been thrown out into the streets. Today, at age 50, still not accepted by my family so I just go on as though I have no family at all.

I can not stop crying for these poor lost young people… what kind of people could leave they’re own children?? I know it happens all the time but it is wrong in every sense of the word… May god watch over these young people everywhere….
