Liberace biopic nominees Matt Damon, Michael Douglas to present at Emmys

LOS ANGELES — Matt Damon and Michael Douglas won’t just be competing for an Emmy. They’ll be handing one out, too.

Emmys producers announced the pair as this year’s first presenters Tuesday.

Damon and Douglas are both nominated for outstanding lead actor in a miniseries or movie for “Behind the Candelabra.” The HBO biopic about pianist Liberace’s affair with Scott Thorson has 15 nominations in all.

Both men have previously been up for Emmys four times. They were last nominated as outstanding guest star in a comedy series. Damon was nominated for the award for “30 Rock” in 2011, while Douglas was nominated in 2002 for “Will & Grace.”

The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards will air live Sept. 22 from the Nokia Theatre. Neil Patrick Harris is the host.
