Fewer than ten show up for ex-gay pride event that expected to draw ‘thousands’

On Tuesday, American Family Radio’s Sandy Rios spoke to Ex-Gay Pride Month organizer Christopher Doyle about Wednesday’s ex-gay lobby day on Capitol Hill.

Doyle, who was organizing the since-canceled Ex-Gay Pride banquet at the Family Research Council, complained in an interview with the Christian Post that “un-American” LGBT rights advocates have “shut us out,” explaining that “because of all this homo-fascism and indoctrination in the media, ex-gays aren’t given a fair shake.”

Rios confidently predicted that “thousands of ex-gays are descending” on Washington for a press conference planned for Wednesday at the Supreme Court. She lamented that when she led Concerned Women for America the media refused to hear “our ex-gay friends” because it “undermined the whole effort of the homosexual lobby.”

Doyle told Rios that “tens of thousands” of ex-gays exist but are “in the closet because of fear, shame and threats from gay activists.”

Well, despite the expectation that “thousands of ex-gays” would partake in Ex-Gay Pride Month, fewer than ten people showed up for the big event.

Besides Doyle, ex-gay activists Greg Quinlan of Parents and Friends of Gays and Ex-Gays (PFOX), Richard Cohen of the International Healing Foundation and Douglas McIntyre of Homosexuals Anonymous also participated.

  19. That sign read “ex-gay equal rights now!” lol how stupid can a person be?

Posted on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 9:19pm
  20. Wow…ex-gay did they really make that up themselves?? I´m not gay myself but I find their attempts to “pray the gay away” is just stupid and a waste of time. You can´t change people´s preferences through what they call “the power of prayer”. If a guy likes other guys there´s no changing that. If a girl likes girls, there´s no changing that either. They need to accept that the world is changing and there is nothing they can do to stop it.

  22. Back when I was on the “far right” of far too many things (we´re talkin´ 30+ years), I heard an “ex-gay” person speak at a Full Gospel Businessmen´s Association. Mind you, I WAS on the far right. But even with the belief system I had at the time, I also had enough “body language literacy” and insight to see quite plainly that the man was not “ex” anything. He was miserable and in “no-man´s-land” – neither this, nor that. Our minds are at war enough without having some self-proclaimed spiritual specialist attempt to rearrange our sexual orientation. “Ex-gay therapy” is a disaster. I´m thankful that more and more people are seeing this.

  23. Wow… Really.. Guess their weren´t enough haters to make them famous!! If you´re gay you´re gay.. If you choose not to be doesn´t make you an ex-gay.. You´re just not a practicing gay person..

  24. You can´t become ex-gay. Only brainwashed.

  26. How weird…

Posted on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 9:32pm
  27. LOL seriously. The idea that someones sexuality at it´s core is something you can decide is a fallacy. A person can either chose to express their sexuality honestly or they can chose not too. Saying the sky is green doesn´t make it so lol

Posted on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 9:32pm
  28. Fair shake? I´ll give me a fair shake, the bastards. Funny that nobody came to their silly event :)

  30. Ex-gay??? Wtf?? Nonsense… You are either gay or you´re not.

Posted on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 9:35pm
  31. Wow what a great showing for an anti-gay pride activity. TOO bad that gay pride activities get THOUSANDS to come and SUPPORT Thousands of gay community members and groups. Funny how only less than 10 anti-gay people show up to an ex-gay activity. Maybe they should re-think their STUPID anti-gay pride event.

  38. Even if there are ex-gays out there, it stands to reason that they would not want that be know. Even if they were open about, I doubt they would go out and flaunt it, “Hey all I USED to suck dick but I saw the light and eat vagina exclusively” ??? *barf*

  61. SO the event was held for the 9 “plants” in hopes it would draw in tons of people who would simply deny who they are and renounce their sexuality. Brill.

  63. People aren´t as brainwashed as they used to be. I came out a long time ago and it was hard. I was taken to a church by my family to try to get the “devil” out. I had holy water tossed on me and a lot of people praying for a change. All it did was make me wet, mad and determined never to go there again. I guess they got a result but not the one they wanted. I am happily married now with 2 sons with my wife. Things have changed a lot since the mid 80´s.

  64. Karen Curtis, hope you can be happy forever and won´t get hurt again.

Posted on Friday, August 2, 2013 at 8:33am
  79. It´s up to them if they to become “Ex Gays” but it´s the fact that they have to lobby about it which is sad, just move on with your lives but don´t judge. Great to see the lobby got the (no) show it deserves .

Posted on Friday, August 2, 2013 at 9:39am
  80. LOL – as an ex “ex-gay” I know there really aren´t that many ex gays. Actually many people find themselves (as gay/lesbian) more confidently accepting of their own sexual orientation.
