Obama: No substitute for love, support parents provide – ‘gay or straight’

WASHINGTON — In his weekly radio address on Saturday, President Barack Obama wished Americans a happy Father’s Day, and said there’s no substitute for the love and support that parents provide — “whether you’re gay or straight.”

“Being a good parent – whether you’re gay or straight; a foster parent or a grandparent – isn’t easy,” said Obama. “It demands your constant attention, frequent sacrifice, and a healthy dose of patience. And nobody’s perfect. To this day, I’m still figuring out how to be a better husband to my wife and father to my kids.”

Obama also lamented that his own father wasn’t around when he was young, said he’s still working to be a better father.
