Beating victim’s family members say attack was a hate crime

LOS ANGELES — A 22-year-old transgender woman suffered fractured ribs, a shattered cheekbone, and a broken jaw in an attack on Thursday night police are investigating as a hate crime, reported KCBS-TV.

Vivian Diego, 22, who works at Beso, the Hollywood restaurant owned by actress Eva Longoria, was jumped by a group of men who attacked her from behind, said her sister, Virginia Diego.

Her sister said the assailants kicked Diego in her temple, which will require surgery.
