DOVER, Del. — Pending legislation authorizing same-sex marriage in Delaware has the support of the executive director of the state Republican Party, who is gay.
John Fluharty said Tuesday that he attended a fundraiser in Wilmington last week for Equality Delaware, a gay-rights organization that is pushing the same-sex marriage bill.
He declined further comment.
State GOP chairman John Sigler issued a statement praising Fluharty’s work for the party and saying that what he chooses to do on his own time with his own money is his own business.
Sigler said Fluharty did not attend the fundraiser last week on behalf of the GOP or in his capacity as an employee of the party.
State lawmakers have not yet introduced a bill authorizing same-sex marriage but plan to do so this year.

Well, I guess he doesn’t totally lack self-respect.
good for you dude congrats
Guess he is only half stupid!
So the news is…?
A gay republican? I have heard of the Log Cabin Republicans, but didn’t think they really existed. Thought it was a myth.
THIS is an area of tolerance I know I really have to work on for myself, because the first thing I think when I see a Republican who is a part of ANY oppressed minority my head just sort of goes…”TILT! I don’t understand. That doesn’t make any sense!” I will keep trying to keep an open mind! Wish me luck!
Congrats!!
Gay Republican doesnt make any sense.
Mr. Mansfield, please see my post above?!? I just shake my head and don’t get it, either. I certainly would never want to limit a person’s political rights, I’m an ally because of my support for just the opposite. I just wish I could better understand his choice.
If my fellow LGTB brothers and sisters do not like to be on the receiving end of discrimination an inequality then you must apply that same nondiscrimination standard to those of us who are LGTB republicans as well. There are many reasons why a person might be a gay republican. For example taxes and spending, government regulation, foreign policy, ect…
@Mark, and supporting people who hate who you are? How about that one?
Everyone should be able to have equal right, Homosexual marriage is Human right, everyone need human right!!!!
My President supports equal marriage for all. While looser Mitt does not. One reason to be stumped by a Gay Republican.
I can only imagine the shit he must get from HIS coworkers!
How long until they drum him out his position?
