Matt Barber, Director of Cultural Affairs for the anti-gay organization Liberty Counsel, marked World AIDS Day with a tweet on Friday declaring that AIDS is a metaphor of “God’s love for gays,” with a link to a photograph of a young AIDS victim on his deathbed.
The image linked to is a 1990 photograph published by LIFE magazine of a young man, David Kirby, dying of AIDS.
Barber’s tweet called it a moving photo of “sin” and “the pain of a father.”
The vehemently anti-gay Liberty Counsel devotes much of its time fighting against rights for LGBT people, opposes same-sex marriage, civil unions, and adoption by gays, supports banning gays and lesbians from serving in the U.S. military, opposes efforts to prohibit employment discrimination against gay workers, and opposes “the addition of sexual orientation, gender identity or similar provisions into to hate crimes legislation.
