The National Organization for Marriage has sunk to a new low of intolerance.
In a “Thanksgiving Message” from Jennifer Roback Morse of NOM’s Ruth Institute, she warns that young people are being “pressured” to support LGBT equality because they have gay friends and peers.
Morse relates a story of a Catholic resident assistant (RA) at a college who didn’t want to participate in the “drag party” being organized by her gay supervisor.
The supervisor “really leaning on her” and tried to “make her feel bad, make her look bad,” an example of a pro-LGBT strategy that Morse feels is a much more significant threat than the media:
MORSE: I think a lot of our students are encountering this type of situation in their dorms and on their college campuses… What I want to say to you, is that the other side has RAs in the dorm where your young people are going to school. There’s no TV message that is going to do the job of countering that type of influence. Somebody’s got to be there talking to young people one at a time in the places where they’re hanging out and doing the things that they’re doing. There’s no mass media strategy by itself that will solve this problem. [...]
And this holiday season, when your young people come home from college, ask them about this. Ask them if they have a gay RA in their dorms… So please, talk to your young people about this and see what kind of pressure they may be under that maybe even they don’t realize how much it’s having an impact upon them.
Watch it:
Apparently, simply knowing a gay person now constitutes “pressure” that conservative Christians are unfairly subjected to. Morse’s inherent solution seems to be that young people should ostracize (or disobey, in the case of someone in a supervisory position like an RA) anybody who might be openly gay and to only talk to other equally anti-gay people, like those provided by NOM.
NOM is surely right to be concerned about the growing generation gap on marriage equality and overall LGBT acceptance. Encouraging a culture of exclusion, however, will not likely endear many young people to the group’s cause.

Hmm she such a hater now saying people are forced to support equality. that not true at all. I support marriage equality and the rights of same sex couple for they are human and they don’t deserve to be judged so harshly.
can they ever shut up for 5 minutes?
These people are no better than the right wing extremists in the Middle East. However, I think it will backfire on them much like the bad witch in The Wizard of Oz. How would this be if the ‘gay friend’ was changed to ‘Asian friend’ for example?
Hmmm… yes, the 70 percent of the U.S. population which is some flavor of christian is being unfairly pressured and bombarded on all sides by the interests of the (liberal estimate) 10 percent of the population which is non-straight. Yeeeeah… the math of that persecution just doesn’t add up.
I wonder if the Catholic RA ever has a problem with toga parties. With all that Egyptian clothing an all.
Take ypur cross off. You are no more a christian then the devil. Stop talking and walk the walk of Jesus.
A Good Friend of mine has written a novel called “A LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS:Things that go Bump”
Of course she thinks that.
If it’s not the LGBT community this organization and others like them are picking on it would be some other group. They have to be attacking and putting other people down to make themselves feel important
All these people that preach in the name of God are going to get one hell of a shock if he ever visits and they are cast down into hell for all the evil and hate they spew and all the money hungry greed they have running through their veins. People should stop throwing boulders at glass houses
facepalm
Idiot
there is a thing about false prophets – ones who preach hate is a false prophet
I’m warning all of my friends about NOM. They’re pure evil incarnate.
LOL
Nom is a new group owned by the nazi party almost like the republicans
@Kerry…actually i assure you people are not preassured but freely support gay equality since people are more educated about it nowadays! Being in favour of christianity doesnt mean you are homophobe…I know plenty of christian gay people!
why do you have nothing on this: http://www.facebook.com/ExposingTheTruth/posts/170962249713198
That’s why I am straight! I have a lot of gay friends, so I must be immune to this particular virus! Finally…an answer! Seriously…I had gaydar in the late 1950s! Never got overtures to be enlisted, never ‘caught’ it, and still love gay folks. If you want stem cells from me to inoculate your kids, I will send some, but it will cost you plenty, of course!!!
Oh yeah, and christianity is something that we are not pressured to believe in. Seriously, hypocrites… I encourage an open mind and tolerance. If ppl dont agree with me being gay then thats their belief. If the LGBT community tolerates unacceptance of their orientation from ppl then we can at least be given that same respect back. Simple as that!
she may have jesus around her neck(like many a christian), but im sure if he actually decides to reappear; her, pat robertson, and any other moronic, idiotic, christian psychopath out there will be on his list for a nice ass kicking
Like any youth is going to listen to floppy cleavage over here over their awesome gay friend.
That’s fucked up.
This has been the norm, when I was a kid, that is why so many stayed in the closet.
im closeted because im scared
NOM = dorks
Oh, sure. Kids are really going to listen to this old sow. They’re grasping at straws, trying to figure out how to find new ways to scam people out of their money. Otherwise their gravy train is over.
WE THE PEOPLE NEED to put a STOP TO NOM and their continuing CORRUPT and DESPICABLE activities against GAY people!
Wonder how long it’s going to take some of these nutjobs to realize they and Westboro are cut from the same cloth.
