CHARLOTTE — Out lesbian Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin is among several additional speakers expected at the Democratic National Convention announced this week by event organizers.
Baldwin represents Wisconsin’s 2nd District including its capital city in Madison. She’s one of only four openly gay or lesbian members of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Baldwin is currently running to represent Wisconsin in the U.S. Senate. If successful, she’ll be the first openly gay or lesbian member of that body.
Organizers could not provide details on when or where Baldwin would speak during the event, which starts on Tuesday, Sept. 4 and runs through President Barack Obama’s nomination speech at Bank of America Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 6.

Other speakers slated to appear at the DNC include Carolina Kennedy, Lilly Ledbetter, NARAL Pro-Choice America President Nancy Keenan, Planned Parenthood Action Fund President Cecile Richards, Georgetown University student and outspoken women’s advocate Sandra Fluke and Obama Campaign Co-Chair Eva Longoria.
Previously announced speakers include San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, who will be the first Latino keynote speaker at a Democratic National Convention.
Also expected at the DNC are President Bill Clinton, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, California Attorney General Kamala D. Harris, Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, former Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, U.S. Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland and Massachusetts U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren.
