Spoiler alert: LGBT Watch at the Olympics is a regular feature tracking the nearly two dozen LGBT athletes at the London 2012 Olympics. The juggernaut that is the United States women’s basketball team at the Olympics rolled all over Canada 91-48 Tuesday in the quarterfinals of London 2012 competition.
The victory was the 39th consecutive Olympic win for the Americans, who haven’t lost since the semifinals of the 1992 Olympics. That year, the U.S. settled for a bronze medal.
The United States seeks its fifth consecutive gold medal, and will play Australia in the semifinals on Thursday. The Americans have beaten the Australians in the past three gold-medal games.

On Tuesday, the U.S. played stellar defense, forcing the Canadians into 26 turnovers.
Seimone Augustus, the only out member on the U.S. team who started the first game of group play but since has been benched, played 21 minutes against Canada. Augustus scored nine points in three-of-eight shooting, grabbed three defensive rebounds, doled out three assists and blocked one shot.
Team dressage
The great rider Carl Hester and his horse Uthopia led Great Britain to a gold medal in team dressage on Tuesday at Greenwich Park. Germany won the silver and Netherlands won the bronze.
Another famed rider, Edward Gal, headed the Dutch team.
Gal and Hester are gay.
For Hester, 45, winning a gold at home in the London 2012 caps his stellar competition in four Olympics for the Brits. His result of 80.571 ranked third, behind teammate Charlotte Dujardin (83.286) and Adelinde Cornelissen of the Netherlands (81.968). Gal and his horse Undercover finished 10th (75.556).
Women’s handball
Norway knocked off Brazil 21-19 Tuesday in the quarterfinals of women’s handball at London 2012. Although Norway is the defending gold-medal winner, Brazil was seeded No. 1 based on its group play. Brazil benched Mayssa Pessoa, the 27-year-old lesbian goalkeeper for this game.
Alexandra Lacrabére, a lesbian, and her team from France was ousted by Montenegro 23-22 in another quarterfinal game. The result was a stunner, since France finished on top in group play. Lacrabére scored three goals. But Montenegro’s Katarina Bulatovic scored on a penalty shot with one second left in the match, leaving the French women in tears and in shock. Montenegro’s team celebrated wildly.
