‘Good As You’ blogger Jeremy Hooper pens book on LGBT life, fight for equality

NEW YORK — Veteran blogger and LGBT advocate Jeremy Hooper, on Tuesday released his new book, “If It’s a Choice, My Zygote Chose Balls: Making Sense of Senseless Controversy,” a unique mix of memoir and social commentary on the debate between the LGBTQ community and its detractors.

Hooper leads readers through his own life story, revealing the positive and unnecessarily encumbered aspects of growing up gay in contemporary society.

Hooper, who founded his widely acclaimed blog Good As You in 2005, opens a window into the realities of family rejection and acceptance in this new book.

As he muses, he also offers guidance for would-be straight allies sharing with the readers the inner monologue of a boy who knew who he was long before his early adulthood would make the necessary allowances for him to own his identity and sexual orientation.

Hooper takes readers along on his highly relatable human journey as he reveals the truths of desired and oft stated shared goals of full equality and parity as human beings for LGBTQ people.

“From constant talk about marriage to the popular parlor game ‘Which celebrity is gay?’ our world is, in many ways, obsessed with LGBT topics,” says Hooper.

“However, there is serious neglect in terms of actually tackling the issues at hand. I want to address the weighty topics head on, but in a relatable way,” he writes.

Hooper, who has been profiled by several leading media outlets including the PBS’ “In The Life,” the Sirius Radio Network, and Logo, has worked alongside leading LGBTQ advocacy groups including the Human Rights Campaign and GLAAD.

If It’s a Choice, My Zygote Chose Balls: Making Sense of Senseless Controversy marks Hooper’s first foray into traditional print publishing.

Hooper lives in Manhattan with his husband Andrew Shulman. His book is available at Amazon.com.
