More fodder for ‘One Million’ moms: JC Penney ad features gay dads

OMM 'disturbed' JCP is 'continuing down the same path of promoting sin'
Thursday, May 31, 2012

Retailer JC Penney just hasn’t gotten the message — the rabidly anti-gay group One Million Moms “is disturbed” over “another homosexual ad” from JC Penney, this one featuring two real-life gay dads celebrating Father’s Day.

Under the banner “First Pals,” the ad in the June JCP catalog shows two men on the floor playing and hugging their two children at home.

The ad reads, “What makes Dad so cool? He’s the swim coach, tent maker, best friend, bike fixer and hug giver – all rolled into one. Or two. Real-life dads Todd Koch and Cooper Smith with their children Claire and Mason.”

In its latest call to action against JCP, OMM said it “is disturbed that JC Penney is continuing down the same path of promoting sin in their advertisements.”

It is obvious that JCP would rather take sides than remain neutral in the culture war. JCP will hear from the other side so they need to hear from us as well. Our persistence will pay off! One day we will answer for our actions or lack of them. We must remain diligent and stand up for Biblical values and truth. Scripture says multiple times that homosexuality is wrong, and God will not tolerate this sinful nature.

OMM will continue to avoid shopping at JCP until they take a neutral stand.

This is not OMM’s first, or even second, tangle with JC Penney.

Earlier this month, JCP infuriated OMM for featuring a lesbian couple in its Spring catalog. Under the title “Freedom of Expression,” the ad depicted “Wendi and her partner Maggie and daughters.” In the photo, both women are wearing wedding bands.

And earlier this year, OMM launched a public campaign demanding that the retailer fire spokesperson Ellen DeGeneres because she’s gay.

JC Penney officials dismissed the group’s demands, and stood firmly behind DeGeneres. Eventually, OMM abandoned its campaign against JC Penney, because, said its Director Monica Cole, “other issues require her group’s attention, so OMM is moving on.”

The group is asking its supporters to call local stores to harass JC Penney store managers — who have nothing to do with the company’s marketing strategies — because corporate officials have ignored their complaints and blocked incoming emails originating from One Million Moms’ server.

One Million Moms, whose membership is really closer to 47,000 judging by its Facebook page, is “a project of the American Family Association (AFA)” — the AFA has been designated as an anti-gay hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).

So far this year, the group has called for boycotts against the Gap, Urban Outfitters, Archie Comics and Toys R Us, and DC and Marvel comics.

  7. They should be forced to change their name or be sued for misrepresentation, since with >40,000 members (not all moms I’m sure either with those male names); There’s definite misrepresentation calling themselves One Million Moms when they got maybe 23,000 actual moms… living or dead.

  16. I think it’s awesome that they had an ad featuring a gay couple. 1 in 10 people is GLBT but like 1 in a million couples are portrayed as gay on commercials. It doesn’t make sense.

Know that the God I know would never allow soo much hatred and judgement. What are they sooo afraid of really? perhaps missing a great deal and sale at JCP? Or perhaps they are attempting so hard to prove they are right in fear they are wrong?// WOW!

  33. If someone doesn’t believe homosexuality is correct in your religion, then don’t go into a homosexual relationship! Stay out of everyone’s lives who are born this way! Why don’t tell everyone to be gay, we just don’t want there to be hate towards the community anymore! Were not trying to make the world gay! These women are so outrageous and ignorant! Stop trying to run your religion into everything! Separation of church and state~ Freedom of speech! follow these rules if you

  40. Oh dammit I looked directly into the ad, I can feel myself catching gay!
…oh, is that… is that not how it works?

Does anyone know about the conditions at JC Penny manufacturing facilities by the way? It’s important to consider the conditions for their labourers too, not just the orientation of their models and spokespeople.

  41. If you are for ads like the above one please call in and let JC Pennys ad department know that you support them. 972-431-8200 I DID!

  44. Eventually these neurosyphilitic C U Next Tuesdays are going to have to face the fact that the whole world accepts gays….which they’ll do…by hating the whole world! It’s hard to get ad space at that point.

Posted on Friday, June 1, 2012 at 7:00pm
  49. oh this OMM goup thing needs to stop and think before they decide to teach hate and sin they should teach that love is equal for everyone. There is really nothing wrong with the pictures they show a loving family and its better to teach kids that anyone and everyone can be in love and have happy familys instead of showing the lies about everything

Posted on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 10:32am
  56. I think it is a bit of disservice to the GLBT+ community to open the article with “Retailer JC Penney just hasn’t gotten the message” though… JPC gets it…and they’re telling OMM, and their parent hate-group, AMA, to go screw themselves… Which is GOOD for us, not bad.
