Prior to launching his first run for president, Mitt Romney in 2006 addressed an event called “Liberty Sunday” at Boston’s Tremont Temple Baptist Church where he spoke alongside anti-gay activists and attacked marriage equality as harmful to children and civilization itself.
Warning against the “homosexual agenda,” Family Research Council president Tony Perkins introduced Mitt and Ann Romney and lauded the former Massachusetts governor for understanding “the threat that this imposes to our nation.”
Romney condemned people, especially activist judges, whom he accused of “trying to establish one religion, the religion of secularism” and “reject traditional values” and “reject the values of our Founders.”
“Here in Massachusetts, activist judges struck a blow to the foundation of civilization — the family — they ruled that our constitution requires people of the same gender to marry,” Romney said.
“The principal burden of this court’s ruling doesn’t fall on adults, it falls on children.” He continued, “The price of same-sex marriage is paid by the children, our fight for marriage then should focus then on the needs of children, not the rights of adults.”
Romney called for the adoption of a Federal Marriage Amendment to block the “spreading secular religion and its substitute values” that he said “weaken the foundation of the family” and dishonor the Founders.
Other speakers included Focus on the Family founder James Dobson, American Family Association president Don Wildmon, and preacher Wellington Boone, who reminisced about the time when sodomy was a capital offense in America, joked about “sodomite island,” and said the push for LGBT rights represents the “rape of the civil rights movement.”

Its sad because it is true…as Tiffany said, unless a person is directly impacted by these matters their votes will not be affected at all!!! I am an avid support of the LGBT community and my parents and siblings are also…my sister is also out and proud!!! But my Aunt and her Husband, who is a Catholic Priest, and she i know loves me in her way, doesn’t support the LGBT community at all!!!! we have had several debates…and it will not change my Sexual Orientation…even close loved ones can be separated when their opinions differ in strong ways…it hurts and it is very sad.

Everyone is up in arms about Obama supporting gay EQUALITY. I would like to point out that Mitt Romney started this ball rolling. And now NC have actually placed an amendment in their state constitution banning EQUALITY to gays. There have been bigoted assholes getting on radio and tv spreading their hatred bullshit and I am disgusted!!! I want to point out that the USA is supposed to be based on separation of state. What does that mean? It means that religion has no place in politics. We are all created equal, with the right and freedom of expression and beliefs without fear of persecution, as long as these believes or expressions do not violate the rights of others. I would like to point out to all these bible bashing fucks that Jesus taught compassion, acceptance, love, and forgiveness. By you taking upon yourself to rebuke such teachings, by your own belief structure, you are sinning. You are stating that you know better than god, therefore nullifing his existence, which also means based on your belief structure, YOU ARE GOING TO HELL! I have seen loved ones ridiculed and hated because of who they love so I want to put this out there. It is no one else’s business who you decide to love or marry. We as a people need to focus on ensuring that people are safe, treated with respect, and provided for. Focus on the murders, the rapists, the wars, famine, and caring for the vulnerable and less fortunate! To politicians and religious leaders, if you are not prepared to adress any of those areas, then shut the fuck up!!!
