Paul Iacono, the 23-year-old actor and former star of MTV’s “The Hard Times of RJ Berger” on Wednesday announced via Twitter and in an interview with The Village Voice that he is gay.
“Yes I’m gay. And yes, it does get better. #YOLO.” Iacono tweeted on Wednesday.
Iacono said that he grew in “a really old-school Italian traditional family in New Jersey” and struggled to come to terms with his sexuality.
“I tried coming out a couple of times as a kid, from 13-14 on, and was always squashed on,” he said.

Iacono told The Village Voice that it wasn’t “until I was 18 that I came out with my mom and 20 with my dad. I was older and able to address it from a different perspective.”
In his upcoming MTV show, “Kenzie’s Scale,” Iacono plays a college student who moves with his high school sweetheart to New York, only to have a gay awakening when he gets there.
Iacono calls the show is “a radical young Will & Grace.”
