U.S. Congressman Jared Polis, partner announce birth of son

U.S. Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.) and his domestic partner Marlon Reis, on Friday announced the birth of their son, Caspian Julius.

Polis becomes the first openly gay member of Congress to become a parent.

An emailed birth announcement from the Congressman’s press office declared: “Baby and parents are doing well, [and] baby has learned to cry already!”

The announcement also asked well-wishers for “nice thoughts for Caspian, humankind, the planet and the universe.”

The couple announced that they were expecting a baby back in June, but declined to reveal whether they were becoming parents through adoption or surrogate pregnancy.

Caspian Julius weighed in at 8 pounds, 12 ounces.
