Christians and gay teen suicides: ‘How could anyone be so stupid?’

In the conversations centered around such tragedies as the recent Jamey Rodemeyer suicide — see Christians and the Blood of Jamey Rodemeyer) — we very often find conservative Christians defending themselves against the accusation that the theology in which they believe–and specifically their belief that homosexuality is a sin against God—ultimately contributes to that which informs, motivates, and encourages the bullying of gay teens.

In this short parody (made with the free online tools available at xtranormal.com), two Christians discuss that very issue.

Opinions and advice expressed in our Views & Voices columns represent the author's own views and not necessarily those of LGBTQ Nation. We welcome comments and editorials of opposing views and diverse perspectives. To submit a article or editorial, contact us here.

  2. …what? Where are you getting that this was something for kids? It’s intended for adults, or just about anyone offended by Christians in denial. This was pointing out how STUPID and HYPOCRITICAL Christians are.

  4. This is awful, its sad that people actually think like this.

  5. And could the animation BE any more lame?? I guess some people just have no lives at all. Sad.

  6. The animation is typical of Xtranormal–you can see dozens of short animations made with this, and the main feature is the dialogue rather than the animation. (These are stock characters and voices, too.)
This is not intended specifically for children, even though the animation characters look that way.
The point here, obviously, is that some people who call themselves Christian are insensitive and hypocritical when it comes to their opinions about and actions toward LGBTQ people. Well, duh!
However, just as nobody can be right in characterizing all gay men or all lesbians (etc.) as being the same, nobody can be right in saying that all Christians are the same. I am a lesbian and am also Christian (a progressive Episcopalian). There are many gay/lesbian (and also bi- and trans-, I assume) clergy; lots are in the closet (particularly in the Roman Catholic church), but not all. Progress is very slow, divisive, and painful, but it is still happening and needs everyone’s support.

  7. (My comment above was a joke. See, because I MADE the movie, see. So that’s why my saying that was funny. Not HILARIOUS, obviously. But reasonably amusing. Or so I thought. In my head. But never mind.)

  8. @ so-called gay christians:

A gay christian is a self-loathing gay person. You cannot blend the Bible’s words of hatred with the life of an self-respecting gay person. That is a volatile combination.

You’re either gay OR christian. Not both. To think that your stupid ass is probably giving money to a church that spreads hatred against us, is horrifying.

With gays like you, who needs enemies?
