Ricky Martin talks about his struggle with the ‘evil’ of being gay

Ricky Martin, appearing on the “Tonight Show with Jay Leno” on Tuesday, spoke candidly about his struggle to come out as gay because he thought homosexuality was “evil.”

Martin said his religious and cultural background made it difficult to accept his sexuality. “What I was feeling, according to what I had in my mind, was evil.”

Now, a year after coming out, Martin — a father to twin toddlers — says he is now at peace with himself. “I’m very lucky today to say that I’m gay and I love it and I’m so happy.” Watch:

Martin also confirmed that he is in a relationship, but offered no details.

“All I have to say is that he loves my children and my children love him and it can’t get better,” he said.
