‘Becoming Chaz:’ Bono’s transformation chronicled in new documentary

A new documentary premiering Tuesday chronicles a year in the life of Chaz Bono, and his physical transition from female to male.

In “Becoming Chaz,” Bono, the 42-year-old son of Cher and the late Sonny Bono — who was born Chastity Bono in 1969 — shares his intimate and personal journey of gender reassignment. Here’s a preview:

The Los Angeles Times calls “Becoming Chaz” “undoubtedly one of the most thought-provoking films you will see on any screen this year. A frankly chronicled tale of Chaz’s life as a transgender man that opens a more than occasionally mind-blowing conversation about the essentials of gender, and subsequently, sexuality.”

The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, which Bono attended with his partner, Jennifer Elia. The television debut is Tuesday night on OWN (The Oprah Winfrey Network).
