Another South Carolina man reports he was attacked for being gay

Wednesday, May 4, 2011

A Spartanburg, S.C. gay man said he was attacked in a local sports bar early Sunday morning by several men who dumped a pitcher of beer on him, and proceeded to use anti-gay slurs while beating him with a broken beer bottle.

“With staples in his head, stitches on his arm, and bandages on his face, Vonte Fuller has constant reminders of the hate he says he experienced this weekend,” reported WSPA-TV. Watch:

Fuller, 22, said he feels the attack was a hate crime, although no such laws exist in South Carolina.

Last month, another South Carolina gay man — Joshua Esskew, 19 — was attacked outside a convenience store in Rock Hill, S.C., when a man shouted a gay slur at him. When Esskew walked away, that man hit him with a beer bottle in the back of the head. The attack was caught on surveillance video.

  2. And to the ignorant people who had something to say about the last attack in SC, now you have ur proof that HATE has no color barriers… And the sooner we see past any type of barriers that may define us whether it be sexuality, race, age or religion… The sooner we can move past these things and on to things that really matter

  3. Well, race does take a big part too, especially the mentality. And we both know how most black people think.

  7. While some cultural differences in relation to perceptions of masculinity create the likelihood that homosexuals will be met with violence, the violence against homosexuals extends beyond any culture or racial boundaries. Stop acting like this is just some ignorant people of X racial category and start facing the facts that ignorance and hate is a universal problem. Don’t be a part of the problem by spouting ignorant crap about racial differences, take a step back and check your own privilege and biases.

  9. Unfortunately, bigots and hateful people also seem to be part of life. And yet the gay people are the disgusting ones.
