Neil Patrick Harris at People’s Choice Awards: Out, proud and ‘awesome’

There will come a day when this isn’t necessarily newsworthy…

But upon winning the People’s Choice Award for Favorite TV Comedy Actor earlier this week, Neil Patrick Harris took a moment to plant a kiss on the cheek of his partner and “better half”, David Burtka — on national television.

On stage, Harris thanked Burtka — “a phenomenal man and an even better dad” — and mentioned the couple’s twins, Gideon Scott and Harper Grace, born to a surrogate Oct. 12, 2010.

In case you missed it:

Harris won the award for his portrayal of the womanizing “Barney Stinson” on CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother.”

Congrats to NPH on the win, and for demonstrating once again that it’s OK to be an out and proud gay man, partner and father. In the words of Barney Stinson, that’s just “awesome!”

And congratulations to Jane Lynch as well, who won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite TV Comedy Actress.

Lynch gave a shout out — “Lara, I love you baby” — to her wife, Dr. Lara Embry. The couple married last year in Massachusetts.
