The man arrested on suspicion of opening fire on a crowd attending a San Francisco gay pride event Saturday night is no longer believed to be the gunman responsible for murdering 19-year-old Stephen Powell and injuring two others.
According to the San Francisco Examiner:
The gun found on the man arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 19-year-old during Pink Saturday festivities does not match the bullets used in the slaying.
Stephen Powell died Saturday after being targeted at the San Francisco Pride celebration in the Castro district. A gunman approached the young man and fired four bullets into his chest. Two other bystanders were injured.
The San Francisco Appeal reports:
Police arrested Ed Perkins, 20, after he was found near the crime scene in possession of a .357-caliber revolver, and he was initially charged with one count of murder and several firearms violations.

Investigators, however, have determined none of the seven shots fired into the crowd were from Perkins’ weapon, and no witnesses were able to put Perkins at the scene, the district attorney’s office said.
Police are still looking for a suspect in the shooting.
